Designing and Shipping with a Smooth Dev Handoff

Travis Burk
For years, I handed off Figma files to developers and hoped for the best. Then I switched to Framer, and my workflow changed completely.
Now I build with modular components and strong structure in Figma, then move into Framer to turn designs into interactive, responsive prototypes I can actually ship. I connect CMS data, layer animations, and refine behavior directly in the build — without waiting on dev cycles.
It’s faster, but more importantly, it’s closer to the final product. Clients don’t see static screens anymore — they see real, working experiences.
This shift also changed how I design. I now think earlier about layout behavior, responsiveness, and implementation details. Modern designers need more than visual skill — they need end-to-end product thinking.
